PRESENTING YOUR DESIGN WORK WITH CONFIDENCE
EPISODE 23
If you find the prospect of presenting your design work to clients a little bit nerve-racking or uncomfortable, you’re definitely not alone.
I think presenting creative work with confidence is something a lot of designers and creatives find challenging.
It’s not a skill we’re necessarily taught in any meaningful way, and designers are left to pick it up as they go.
In this episode of The C Word Podcast, I talk about some of the skills and strategies I’ve learned that have made me more confident when presenting my creative work. In fact, I’d say I’m pretty good at it these days, but that hasn’t always been the case.
Along the way, I’ve recognised that the quality of the presentation is so important to the success of a design or creative project. I’ve learned some key go-to skills to put my best foot forward, and they fall into 3 broad categories which I’ll dive into in the episode.
My 3 Top Tips for Presenting Your Design Work
1. Preparation
How do you get yourself prepared for the meeting? This is about getting confident with your content, being ready for any curly questions and taking time to run through your presentation so you feel more relaxed and ready!
2. Energy
Your headspace and demeanour will have a powerful effect on the tone and outcome of the presentation. This is about setting yourself up with the mindset to succeed.
3. Rationale
Are you putting steps in pace to take the subjectivity out of the discussion and the response to the creative work. It’s not just about presenting your design work, it’s also about sharing the reason behind it all and the process that got you to the outcome.
